Royal brothers remain distant as gestures of reconciliation fall short
Prince William’s recent mention of Harry in an ITV documentary has stirred speculation about a potential thaw in their strained relationship. For the first time in years, William referenced his younger brother, sparking hope among royal watchers for a possible reconciliation.
However, royal author Phil Dampier dismissed this as a mere nod to their shared past, particularly memories of their mother, Princess Diana, and her charitable work. “It would have been a snub if he hadn’t mentioned Harry,” Dampier stated, clarifying that the reference doesn’t signify a breakthrough.
Since Harry's exit from the royal fold in 2020, the brothers’ relationship has been marred by public tensions and silence. Their estrangement was starkly evident at a family gathering for their late uncle, Lord Fellowes, where they reportedly did not exchange a word. Though William’s mention of Harry may have appeared as an olive branch, experts suggest that the gap between them remains as vast as ever, a reality that would likely sadden their mother, Diana.
