Historic debut of the Earthshot Prize brings global stars and environmental focus to Cape Town
Prince William’s visit to South Africa reached a symbolic moment as he joined President Cyril Ramaphosa in Cape Town, where the two discussed their shared commitment to environmental causes. Their meeting underscored the significance of this year’s Earthshot Prize ceremony, marking the award's first appearance on African soil.
Though President Ramaphosa won’t attend the upcoming event, the high-profile occasion promises appearances from international stars, including supermodel Heidi Klum and actress Nina Dobrev, who will announce the five recipients of the £1 million prize.
While Catherine, the Princess of Wales, is absent due to her ongoing cancer recovery, the fourth annual Earthshot Prize ceremony stands as a pivotal moment in Prince William’s environmental mission. Kensington Palace has even likened the event to the “Super Bowl” of William’s advocacy efforts.
Prince William's visit began with the launch of the Earthshot Prize Climate Leaders Youth Programme, engaging with 120 young environmentalists from Africa and Southeast Asia and highlighting innovative solutions to combat climate change.
