The Duchess of Gloucester steps in as Queen Camilla battles a chest infection and cancels key engagements.
Queen Camilla is currently sidelined with a chest infection, prompting a temporary reshuffle in her schedule. The Duchess of Gloucester will step in for the 77-year-old Queen at official events this week, including the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey.
The Danish-born Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, married to Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, has already completed 111 royal engagements this year. Her involvement aims to ensure continuity of duties as Camilla rests at home under medical supervision.
Camilla has also canceled her attendance at a Buckingham Palace reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, hosted by King Charles. Buckingham Palace remains hopeful she will recover in time for the upcoming Remembrance events.
A palace spokesperson shared: "Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection and, with great regret, has had to withdraw from her engagements this week. However, she remains optimistic about attending the weekend’s Remembrance events as planned."
