Prince William’s Humorous Take on Shark Diving During South Africa Tour

The Prince Balances Conservation Talks with Lighthearted Moments About Swimming with Sharks

Prince William captivated audiences on the second day of his South Africa tour, starting with a nature walk at Signal Hill, where he discussed biodiversity preservation with local rangers and conservationists. Among those he met was Robert Irwin, young Australian environmentalist and Earthshot Prize Global Ambassador, with whom William shared lighthearted moments about Cape Town’s thrilling ocean life, including shark diving.

When asked if he’d ever consider a close encounter with sharks, William responded wittily, "On a boat, maybe, but not in the water," adding, "I see Great Whites on the TV and that’s enough!"

The Prince later engaged in a pivotal meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, joined by Foreign Secretary David Lammy and South African Minister Ronald Lamola, to strengthen UK-South Africa relations. William’s day continued with his involvement in Earthshot+, a summit dedicated to enhancing Earthshot Prize initiatives and tackling illegal wildlife trafficking, underscoring his unwavering commitment to conservation efforts.
