Despite Residence Disrepair and Financial Cuts, Duke of York Holds Ground on Windsor Mansion
Prince Andrew has resolved to remain at his luxury Royal Lodge residence in Windsor, despite recent financial cuts imposed by King Charles III. The Duke of York, undeterred by his brother’s decision to withdraw funding, reportedly has no intention of leaving the property, valued at £30 million.
A royal expert noted that Andrew is “digging his toes in” during this stand-off with the King, who has increasingly pressured him to vacate the 31-bedroom mansion. The residence, once home to the Queen Mother and King George VI, shows visible signs of disrepair, including black mould and extensive structural cracks.
Images of the deteriorating mansion emerged following reports that King Charles withdrew the Duke’s £1 million annual allowance. Previously, Andrew rejected an offer to relocate to Frogmore Cottage, prompting the King to eliminate his entire security team. Now, Andrew must either fund security himself or consider alternative accommodations.
A royal insider remarked that Andrew’s defiant stance is a symbolic act, stating, “It’s dishonouring the Queen Mother’s memory. It’s shoving up two fingers at King Charles.”
