Documentary Showcases Monarch’s Decade-Long Advocacy for Abuse Survivors
Queen Camilla has reaffirmed her commitment to eradicating domestic violence, even as she contends with ongoing health issues.
The 77-year-old monarch will be featured in the upcoming documentary The Queen: Behind Closed Doors, which spotlights her relentless efforts to raise awareness and combat domestic and sexual abuse. The film captures a year of Camilla’s engagements, highlighting her meetings with survivors and organizations dedicated to supporting those affected.
Among the survivors featured is former Miss England, Rehema Muthamia, who shared her harrowing experience of being stalked by an ex-partner. In the documentary, Rehema recounts the frightening moment when her ex-boyfriend appeared unexpectedly at her flat late at night, leaving her feeling vulnerable and unsafe.
Camilla, a passionate advocate for over a decade, has been dedicated to breaking the stigma around domestic violence. During their conversation, Rehema conveyed a powerful message about reclaiming control through speaking out: “Once you start speaking, it’s very empowering,” she told the Queen. “From that moment, you feel you’ve taken back the control they took from you.”
Rehema, who was crowned Miss England in 2021, explained that transforming her pain into a purpose was a key turning point in her healing. “Life doesn’t end after abuse,” she said. “It’s a new chapter, and you become a stronger woman from it.”
Queen Camilla praised Rehema and other survivors for their courage, acknowledging the profound impact of their voices. “By encouraging these incredibly brave survivors to speak out, it has made people sit up and listen,” the Queen remarked, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness and fostering change.
Camilla’s continued advocacy, despite her personal health struggles, reflects her unwavering dedication to supporting survivors and ending the cycle of abuse.
