Despite their close bond and shared home, royal experts doubt a romantic reunion.
Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s relationship remains unique, decades after their divorce in 1996. While no longer romantic partners, the Duke and Duchess of York continue to share a residence at Royal Lodge and are often seen together at events and on holidays, sparking speculation about a possible remarriage.
However, royal expert Victoria Arbiter believes such a reunion is unlikely. Speaking on GB News, Arbiter commented, “Their current situation seems to suit them both well, so why complicate things?”
The pair wed in a grand ceremony at Westminster Abbey on July 23, 1986, and later welcomed two daughters, Princess Beatrice in 1988 and Princess Eugenie in 1990. Yet, their marriage faced challenges early on, with Andrew’s naval career keeping him away for long stretches.
By 1991, they had separated, and their divorce was finalised five years later. Reflecting on her marriage during a 2010 interview, Sarah candidly shared, “I was marrying my man, who happened to be a prince and a naval officer. But what I got was the palace, not him… We spent only 40 days a year together.”
Despite their divorce, Sarah has remained at Royal Lodge with Andrew, explaining in The Sunday Times that the arrangement offers her a sense of stability. “When I’m in the UK, I’m lucky enough to stay at Royal Lodge. I wouldn’t call it my home, as that would be presumptuous,” she noted.
While their unconventional bond continues to fuel public curiosity, experts agree that their current dynamic—close but independent—is unlikely to evolve into remarriage.
