Monarch’s Admirable Gesture Wins Over US Tourists Amid Harry and Meghan’s Separate US Appearances
King Charles III charmed American tourists during a surprise walkabout in central London on Wednesday, showcasing his approachable and good-humoured nature.
The 76-year-old monarch visited St Peter’s Church to thank aid workers and supporters of the Disasters Emergency Committee. During the visit, Charles apologised to well-wishers for leaving them waiting in the rain. His lighthearted interaction with a group of tourists from Texas quickly won them over.
One tourist exclaimed, “Oh my God, you’re kidding me,” upon recognising the King. Charles responded with humility: “I’m so sorry you’ve been stopped coming along the street. Are you all trying to go somewhere else, are you? I hope you are not getting too wet.”
When asked if they were enjoying their visit, a tourist replied, “Now we are,” prompting laughter from the monarch, who quipped, “Oh, I don’t know about (that)!” He added, “I do hope you make the most of it and have a very Happy Christmas.”
The tourists were thrilled by the unexpected encounter, with one saying, “This is the most British thing that could ever happen. In the US, you wouldn’t get near anyone because of security, but here, the King just casually wanders down to say hello. It’s amazing!”
Meanwhile, Prince Harry addressed ongoing speculation about his relationship with Meghan Markle during his appearance at the New York Times 2024 DealBook Summit. Harry dismissed divorce rumours, humorously stating, “Apparently, we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?”
