Duke of Sussex Rules Out UK Return, Citing Freedom for His Children in the US
Prince Harry has seemingly dashed King Charles III’s hopes of seeing his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, this Christmas, as the Duke confirmed he has no plans to return to the UK.
During his appearance at the New York Times 2024 DealBook Summit, Harry expressed his satisfaction with relocating to the US in 2020 and raising his children there. “I very much enjoy living here and bringing up my kids here,” he said, noting that Archie and Lilibet have freedoms in the US that they wouldn’t experience in the UK.
Harry’s remarks highlighted the differences in lifestyle between the two countries. Referencing the challenges of royal life, Meghan Markle previously shared that, in the UK, even simple acts like school drop-offs would become public spectacles. “If Archie were in school in the UK, I’d never be able to do school pickup and drop-off without it being a royal photo call with a press pen of 40 people snapping pictures,” Meghan said in a past interview, adding, “That doesn’t make me obsessed with privacy. That makes me a strong and good parent protecting my child.”
Security remains a priority for Harry and Meghan, who have taken extensive measures to ensure their family’s safety in the US. Their comments underline their commitment to providing a secure and private environment for their children.
As King Charles, who is reportedly battling health challenges, prepares to celebrate Christmas without his youngest son and grandchildren, Harry’s statements further solidify the couple’s decision to remain in California and prioritise their family’s well-being over royal obligations.
