Prince William is reportedly furious after Meghan Markle’s surprising gesture triggered turmoil within the Palace, further complicating family relations.
The Duchess of Sussex, who stepped back from senior royal duties with Harry in 2020, has remained distant from her in-laws, particularly after her explosive Oprah interview. However, Harry’s memoir Spare reveals that tensions between William and Meghan existed from the very beginning.
Royal biographer Tom Quinn, in his book Yes Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, shared insights into how Meghan’s affectionate behaviour made William uncomfortable. Quinn wrote, “This tactile manner made William uncomfortable because Meghan hugged him virtually every time they bumped into each other.”
He further noted that Meghan’s frequent hugging and cheek-kissing led to gossip among Palace staff, with some speculating—incorrectly—that she was flirting with William. The resulting rumours reportedly heightened tensions and deepened the rift between William and Harry.
A source also told InTouch Weekly that cultural misunderstandings between William and Meghan not only strained their relationship but also sparked a broader family feud.
