Monarch set to resume royal duties after brief hospitalisation
King Charles is reportedly in excellent spirits as he readies himself for a significant state visit to Italy next week, shortly after recovering from a short hospital stay.
The 76-year-old monarch, joined by Queen Camilla, is expected to arrive in Rome on Monday for a four-day diplomatic tour aimed at reinforcing the close ties between the United Kingdom and Italy, according to GB News.
This overseas engagement follows a temporary setback related to the King’s ongoing cancer treatment, which resulted in a short hospital admission and the postponement of a visit to Birmingham. Palace insiders have described the episode as a "minor bump in the road."
Royal expert Phil Dampier told the Express that the King appeared to be in “very good form this week” and eager to resume public duties. Broadcaster Alan Titchmarsh also praised the monarch’s enthusiasm, commenting after a recent event: “He is so energetic—he’s not just a talker, he’s a doer.”
In light of his recent health concerns, the itinerary in Rome has been adjusted to span two days instead of one, allowing for a more relaxed pace.
One of the highlights of the visit will be a state banquet on Wednesday at the historic Palazzo Quirinale, hosted by Italian President Sergio Mattarella. The evening also holds personal significance, as it coincides with the royal couple’s 20th wedding anniversary.
