Duchess struggles to connect with audience as podcast and show receive mixed response
Meghan Markle may have kicked off 2025 with a packed slate of projects, but her latest ventures are receiving a wave of criticism despite impressive viewership. The Duchess of Sussex launched her new podcast Confessions of a Female Founder, a Netflix cooking series With Love, Meghan, and her lifestyle brand As Ever—but royal commentators say she is still struggling to define her audience.
Speaking on The Sun Royal Exclusive, GB News royal correspondent Cameron Walker said reviews for both her podcast and television show have been “pretty scathing,” despite their popularity. “Although it was number 10 on Spotify, and her Netflix series was also in the top 10, the question is: are people watching it because they enjoy it—or because they love to hate it?”
The eight-part podcast, created in collaboration with Lemonada Media, follows Meghan’s journey as an entrepreneur. However, the tone and content have been described as overly American-focused, limiting broader international appeal.
Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson echoed those concerns, noting that Meghan’s guest list leans heavily toward the US. “It’s very US focused. I think all her guests are mainly based in America so far,” he said.
Cameron also questioned whether UK audiences are tuning in out of disdain rather than support, while suggesting American audiences may be growing indifferent.
Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Meghan and Prince Harry have settled in California with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, focusing on media and philanthropic ventures. But with criticism mounting, it remains unclear whether Meghan’s latest brand-building efforts will win lasting public favor—or continue to polarize audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.
