Duke highlights discrepancies in protection decisions during ongoing legal battle
Prince Harry has raised fresh concerns over what he sees as unequal treatment in the UK’s security system, claiming he has been treated less favourably than other high-profile individuals.
In a recent legal appeal, the Duke of Sussex challenged the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC), arguing that their approach to his security lacks fairness and consistency. Unlike other VIPs—who reportedly receive continuous protection based on regular Risk Management Board (RMB) reviews—Harry’s protection is decided on a case-by-case basis.
His legal team pointed out the disparity, asserting that such a method lacks a “proper or rational basis.”
Following the closed hearing, Harry spoke to The Telegraph, saying, “People would be shocked by what’s being held back,” suggesting that confidential information presented in court confirmed his long-held concerns.
The Duke has previously spoken about the elevated threats he and his family face, citing “additional layers of racism and extremism” and describing them as an “international threat.” He maintains that the current arrangements fall short of what’s needed to ensure their safety.
The Home Office, which oversees RAVEC, has defended its position, stating that the security measures in place are adequate. A formal ruling on Harry’s appeal is expected in the coming weeks.
