According to royal author and former BBC journalist Tom Bower, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are in a state of personal and professional crisis. In his forthcoming book, Bower explores the tensions between the couple and the royal family, shedding light on their struggle for relevance, status, and survival.
The author claims Meghan is driven by a desire to become a "billionaire celebrity," but has yet to achieve the influence or recognition she seeks. “She hasn't got the status she craves, she hasn't got the pulling power,” Bower told The Mirror, adding that Harry, who never had to worry about finances or status before leaving the royal fold, doesn’t fully understand her ambition.
“He’s stuck in California clinging on to his royal status, as is she,” Bower said. He suggested that Harry’s hopes of repairing ties with the royal family are “totally unrealistic,” due to what he described as “irreconcilable anger” from Prince William and Catherine.
Despite being “wounded,” Bower claims the couple remains determined to fight back, with their efforts to survive and stay relevant only intensifying.
As tensions with the Prince and Princess of Wales reportedly continue to grow, Bower’s account paints a bleak picture of reconciliation—and a future for the Sussexes increasingly shaped by their need to reinvent themselves outside the monarchy.
