Princess of Wales reflects on emotional moment as youngest son turns seven
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is said to be feeling emotional as her youngest child, Prince Louis, prepares to celebrate a major milestone—his seventh birthday on Tuesday, April 23.
Known for her deep devotion to family life, Catherine is often praised for her close bond with all three of her children. However, royal watchers have long noted her particularly tender connection with Prince Louis, the youngest of the Wales children.
According to royal expert Jennie Bond, the milestone brings a mix of pride and nostalgia for the Princess. “Being the youngest is often something of a privilege,” Bond told The Mirror. “You get away with a lot more, and you are that little bit special as the lastborn.”
She added, “Catherine probably lets Louis run wild more than she did with George,” noting that both Catherine and Prince William have grown into “very experienced parents” who love all three children equally—but in “different ways.”
Bond explained that Prince George is recognised for his role as future king, Princess Charlotte as the only girl, and Prince Louis holds a unique place as the youngest. “Each of them is special in their own way.”
During a previous royal visit to a maternity unit in Surrey, Catherine admitted that it felt like “yesterday” when Louis was still a baby. “I keep thinking Louis is a baby, but he’s a big boy now,” she told new mothers at the time.
As the Wales family prepares to mark Louis’ special day, the Princess is no doubt filled with joy and sentiment, reflecting on how quickly time has passed as her “little boy” grows into a confident young prince.
