Royal family concerned as Princess Royal, 74, battles new health setback
Princess Anne has reportedly sustained a new injury, just months after recovering from a concussion that previously required hospital treatment.
The Princess Royal raised concerns during the Easter Sunday service last week, appearing to lean heavily on her umbrella for support. Observers noted that she bypassed the Dean of Windsor, while Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie engaged with the cleric. Her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, paused to exchange greetings on her behalf.
Royal editor Rebecca English of the Daily Mail revealed that Anne suffered a bruised leg following an “incident” at her Gatcombe Park estate a few days before Easter. Although the injury has caused pain, the famously resilient Princess did not require serious medical treatment.
“As ever, she just keeps going without fuss or fanfare,” a source commented.
Further details of the accident have not been disclosed.
In June of last year, Anne was hospitalised after a horse-related accident at her Gloucestershire estate, resulting in a concussion. She spent five nights in hospital but returned to royal duties just a month later, despite still recovering.
Reflecting on the incident in an interview earlier this year, Anne admitted having no memory of it: “You're jolly lucky... if you can continue to be more or less compos mentis, and last summer I was very close to not being. You are sharply reminded that every day is a bonus really.”
