King Charles III has commemorated a pivotal moment in his reign by unveiling his new Great Seal of the Realm, a powerful emblem of sovereign authority used to endorse official state documents. The announcement came just as his son, Prince Harry, shared an emotional public message from abroad — highlighting the growing personal and symbolic distance between the two.
In a formal statement from Buckingham Palace, the monarch reaffirmed his dedication to royal heritage:
“The King’s new Great Seal of the Realm has been unveiled, a symbol of Sovereign authority traditionally affixed to official state documents to signify Royal approval.”
The uniquely crafted seal, designed specifically for Charles, was handed over to the Lord High Chancellor during a Privy Council meeting.
“In keeping with centuries-old tradition, the old Seal was symbolically defaced by the Monarch himself and preserved for historical record,” the statement added.
The historic moment unfolded shortly after Prince Harry released a heartfelt video message to Joseph Ashitey Hammond, a Ghanaian World War II veteran, in honour of his 100th birthday. The Duke of Sussex praised Hammond’s courage and legacy, expressing hopes to celebrate with him once Ghana officially joins the Invictus community.
The timing was poignant — Harry’s tribute coincided with VE Day commemorations in the UK, which the Duke did not attend. His absence, combined with a recent BBC interview criticising the UK legal ruling over his security arrangements, has further strained his relationship with the royal household.
