Tensions over editorial control reportedly led Anna Wintour to pull Meghan from British Vogue’s 2022 September issue
Meghan Markle was reportedly removed from British Vogue’s highly anticipated September 2022 issue following behind-the-scenes clashes over editorial control, with Canadian supermodel Linda Evangelista ultimately taking her place on the cover.
The Duchess of Sussex was initially lined up to front the issue in a feature highlighting her charitable efforts. However, insiders claim the collaboration unraveled due to increasing frustration from Vogue’s editorial team over alleged “micromanaging” by Meghan’s representatives.
According to the Mail, disputes erupted over the cover layout and proposed straplines, with one source describing Meghan as “difficult about the cover.” The situation reportedly escalated to Vogue’s global editorial director Anna Wintour, who is said to have made the final call to cancel the shoot altogether.
“Anna heard about the situation and essentially banned her, saying, ‘That’s it. We are not doing this,’” the insider revealed.
The disagreement is also believed to have strained Meghan’s previously close relationship with former British Vogue editor Edward Enninful, fuelling speculation of a wider fallout within fashion circles.
With Meghan’s feature scrapped, the coveted cover spot was handed to fashion icon Linda Evangelista, whose appearance was widely celebrated in the industry.
