Meghan Markle Sends Quiet Message of Affection to the UK Amid Ongoing Royal Tensions

Duchess embraces time-honoured royal tradition by using symbolic jewellery to express enduring sentiment

Though relations with the royal family remain strained, Meghan Markle has made a subtle but heartfelt gesture towards the UK—carrying with her a symbol of love and connection as she embraces life in the United States.

In her Netflix docuseries With Love, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex was seen wearing a ‘Love Pendant’ by London-based jewellery designer Sophie Lis—an accessory that holds both emotional and cultural significance. The necklace, adorned with diamonds and rubies, is engraved with the French words “+ qu’hier - que demain,” meaning: “I love you more today than yesterday but less than tomorrow.”

First worn by Meghan in 2020 before her move overseas, the piece is inspired by The Eternal Song by French poet Rosemonde Gérard and is known to represent deepening love. Beyond its romantic symbolism, the pendant also supports a meaningful cause, with 10% of each sale benefiting the Wild at Heart Foundation, a UK-based dog charity in Notting Hill.

Designer Sophie Lis confirmed that Meghan purchased the necklace herself and had supported the brand since its early days. “She definitely bought her pieces—there was no gifting,” Lis told Page Six Style. “It symbolises ever-growing love.”

Meghan also wore Lis’s ‘Fallen Star Hoop Earrings’—designed to resemble the North Star and symbolise protection and guidance—on her final day as a working royal in March 2020. “Those earrings are meant to offer direction,” Lis explained. “It’s such a nice thought to follow the star.”

As family tensions have deepened—particularly after the Duke of Sussex lost his UK security appeal—Meghan has been quietly supporting her husband while also signalling a possible openness to reconciliation. Her return to social media has included subtle nods to cherished UK traditions and holidays, hinting at a lingering fondness for her time there.

Much like royal women have long communicated emotion and intent through their fashion choices, Meghan appears to be embracing this tradition herself—conveying personal meaning, affection, and perhaps a quiet hope for healing, one thoughtful detail at a time.
