Prince Harry Faces Fresh Setback After Security Plea Is Rejected

UK government responds firmly as Duke calls for urgent review of protection process

The Duke of Sussex has encountered yet another disappointment in his battle over security arrangements in the United Kingdom, just days after expressing his anguish over a court ruling.

Following a high-profile BBC interview in which Harry described being “gutted” by the outcome, the UK government has now formally rejected his final request for a review of the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) process. The request, directed at Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, has reportedly been dismissed outright.

Despite stating he would no longer pursue further legal action, Harry had issued a strongly-worded statement announcing he would write to Cooper, urging her to re-examine the handling of his security case.

However, sources cited by GB News confirmed that Cooper, who assumed the role of Home Secretary in July 2024, has no intention of intervening. A government spokesperson, quoted by The Mail on Sunday, also rejected Harry’s implication that royal aides may have influenced the RAVEC decision.

The Duke had expressed astonishment upon learning that two royal household members sit on the committee, suggesting they may have played a role in the verdict.

“All members work together to advise the independent chair on the protective security of the Royal Family and key public figures,” clarified the spokesperson. “These decisions are made by RAVEC, not the Home Secretary, and follow long-standing procedures.”

The Home Office added that it was “pleased” with the court’s decision in favour of the government and reaffirmed that the UK’s protective security system remains “rigorous and proportionate.”
