Prince Harry in Tears Over King Charles' Decision as Meghan Markle Hints at Memoir

Duke left emotional after losing royal home while Duchess reflects on past and possible future book

Prince Harry was reportedly brought to tears after learning that King Charles had asked him and Meghan Markle to vacate Frogmore Cottage — the Windsor home gifted to them by the late Queen in 2019. The couple, who stepped down from royal duties in 2020, were asked to return the keys to their UK residence in 2022 following rising tensions within the royal family.

According to a source at the time, the King's decision came as a "shock" to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and the moment proved especially emotional for Harry. “It was a very difficult moment for them,” the insider said, adding that even Harry "was moved to tears."

The eviction followed the couple’s headline-making interview with Oprah Winfrey, which intensified their rift with the Royal Family. In his memoir Spare, Harry confirmed they were “evicted” from Frogmore Cottage as a result of their royal departure.

During a reflective moment in an interview with The Cut, Meghan shared that while packing, she discovered an old journal that brought back a wave of memories. “You go back and open drawers and you're like, 'Oh my gosh. This is what I was writing in my journal there?'” she recalled, hinting at deeply personal thoughts recorded during their time at the cottage.

The Duchess also suggested she has not been bound by any confidentiality agreements, stating, “I’ve never had to sign anything that restricts me from talking. I can talk about my whole experience.”

These comments have fuelled speculation that Meghan could be preparing to release her own memoir. Royal commentator Roya Nikkhah described the remarks as “thinly veiled threats” and suggested the Duchess has been building toward telling her own story.

Recently, during an appearance on the Jamie Kern Lima Show, Meghan responded to questions about whether she might write another book. While she hinted that a memoir is not imminent, she didn’t rule it out. “Yes, maybe, for sure,” she said. “But I’ve got a lot more life to live before I’m there.”

Despite the emotional fallout of their royal exit, it seems both Harry and Meghan may still have more to say — and perhaps, one day, more to publish.
