Prince Harry’s Court Loss Sparks Claims His Security Fight Was About Cost-Cutting

Insiders Say Duke Wanted to Lower Bodyguard Bills and Regain Royal Status

Prince Harry’s defeat in his lengthy legal battle over UK security has reignited claims that the dispute may have been financially motivated.

After three years and over £1.5 million in legal fees, the Duke of Sussex lost his Court of Appeal challenge against the Home Office, which rejected his attempt to regain publicly funded protection. The Home Office, through RAVEC (the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures), has maintained that Harry no longer qualifies for state-funded security following his departure from royal duties.

Now, royal insiders suggest the legal fight may have centred more on money than safety. “It’s all about the money,” one source told The Sun, adding that Harry hoped a court victory would reduce his growing private security bills and help restore his former status as an International Protected Person.

Currently based in California with Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, Harry is said to spend millions annually on private bodyguards.

Although he has one remaining option—to escalate the case to the Supreme Court—this second consecutive loss may signal the end of his legal fight over protection in the UK.

The defeat adds yet another blow to Harry’s ongoing challenges with his royal role, status, and financial independence.
