Prince Harry’s Surprise China Visit Sparks Tensions with King Charles

Duke of Sussex delivers climate speech in Beijing as King arrives in Canada for key royal tour

The Duke of Sussex made an unexpected appearance in Beijing on May 26, attending the Envision 2025 Global Partner Conference just as King Charles began a high-profile visit to Canada.

Harry, speaking in his role as co-founder of Travalyst, delivered a passionate keynote on sustainable tourism. He urged global leaders to address climate change as both an environmental crisis and a business threat, highlighting the staggering $143 billion annual cost to the global economy.

“Climate change isn’t just an environmental challenge – it’s a critical business emergency,” he said, according to the official Travalyst website. The Duke went on to call for unity in tackling the crisis: “We must never give up.”

Harry also commended the Asia-Pacific region’s potential to lead in responsible tourism, encouraging attendees to “reaffirm [their] commitment to being a force for good.”

His surprise appearance came just hours after King Charles landed in Ottawa, marking his first Canadian tour since taking the throne. The King and Queen Camilla are set to attend the state opening of parliament amid growing political tensions, including recent friction with former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The timing of Harry’s visit has fuelled speculation of deepening rifts within the royal family, as he continues to carve an independent path away from royal duties.
