Prince William to Break 200-Year Tradition by Refusing Buckingham Palace Move

Future king reportedly prioritising children’s privacy over royal customs

Prince William is reportedly set to make a historic change when he becomes king, opting not to move into Buckingham Palace — a royal tradition dating back to 1837.

According to The Times, the Prince of Wales and Catherine are unlikely to relocate their family from their countryside home, as privacy for their children remains a top priority. “You can’t imagine him saying, ‘Great, let’s move back to central London,’” a source told the outlet.

The couple’s intention to shield their children from intense public scrutiny appears to be central to the decision. “He’ll be asking, ‘If they’re still young when I take on the big job, how do I maintain that privacy?’” the source added.

Observers say William has long been shaping a more modern path to the throne. “He has played a very smart hand,” said the insider. “He has chosen it. He has shaped it as he wanted to.”

Royal expert Tom Quinn noted that succession planning for William began well before King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis, with the Prince preparing carefully for a reign defined on his own terms.
