Buckingham Palace celebrates major milestone in King Charles' reign

Monarch presents new Colours to Coldstream Guards ahead of Trooping the Colour

Buckingham Palace has marked a key ceremonial moment in King Charles’ reign as His Majesty presented new Colours to the Coldstream Guards at Windsor Castle, commemorating the regiment’s 375th anniversary.

In a ceremony steeped in tradition, the King — in his role as Colonel-in-Chief — formally handed over the freshly consecrated ceremonial flags, known as Colours, to the 1st and 2nd Battalions (Number 7 Company).

The event serves as a prelude to this year’s Trooping the Colour, where one of the newly presented Colours will be on display during the King’s official birthday parade.

His Majesty received a Royal Salute as the Band of the Coldstream Guards played the National Anthem. During the proceedings, the King inspected the troops and touched the Colours in a symbolic gesture of acknowledgment.

Highlights of the ceremony were shared on the Royal Family’s official Instagram account, which noted, “The Colour is a Regiment’s ceremonial flag made of silk damask, with gold thread embroidery and a fringe.”

Following the presentation, King Charles addressed the soldiers from the dais, praising the Coldstream Guards for their unwavering dedication and distinguished service over nearly four centuries.
