Future king leads major conservation effort as Duchy of Cornwall launches Dartmoor strategy
Kensington Palace has shared new details as Prince William spearheads a significant environmental initiative, unveiled this week during his visit to Dartmoor.
The Duke of Cornwall visited the moorland on Thursday as the Duchy launched its ambitious 20-year strategy — one of Britain's largest conservation projects of its kind. The plan aims to restore Dartmoor’s natural landscapes while helping the region adapt to the growing challenges of climate change.
During his visit to Tor Royal Bog, where extensive peatland restoration is already underway, William was in high spirits. The Prince and Princess of Wales later shared striking images from the day on their official Instagram Story.
The project brings together a wide range of partners to explore innovative land management techniques across the Duchy’s Dartmoor estate. The initiative will focus on improving grazing practices, enhancing biodiversity, and supporting hydrological restoration across the landscape.
During the visit, William also met with emergency responders who had recently fought a wildfire on North Moor. He personally thanked members of the local Fire Service, Dartmoor National Park Authority Rangers, and the Commoners Council for their efforts in tackling the blaze.
