Monarch hosts Nobel laureate as soft diplomacy efforts continue
The royal family concluded a busy week of engagements as King Charles welcomed a key international figure to Buckingham Palace, reinforcing his commitment to diplomacy and peace.
On Wednesday, the Palace confirmed the King met with Oleksandra Matviichuk, head of Ukraine’s Center for Civil Liberties.
“The Center for Civil Liberties is a Ukrainian human rights organisation that works to protect human rights, promote democracy, and support civil society in Ukraine,” the statement read. The group, founded in 2007, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022.
The meeting highlights King Charles’ ongoing role in fostering peace, particularly across Europe and the wider Commonwealth, through soft diplomacy.
Earlier this year, the King met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following a tense encounter between Zelenskyy and former US President Donald Trump.
While the King focuses on promoting international calm, tensions within the royal family remain unresolved. The monarch is still estranged from his younger son, Harry, as the family rift deepens.
The Duke of Sussex recently announced that the Invictus Games will return to the UK in 2027, sparking hope among royal watchers that a meeting between father and son could take place. Whether such a reunion will occur remains uncertain.
