Heartfelt message offers prayers and support to grieving families and devastated communities
King Charles has expressed his deep concern and sorrow following the catastrophic floods that have ravaged parts of Australia, claiming lives and displacing hundreds.
In a moving statement shared via GB News, the monarch extended his "prayers and the deepest possible sympathy" to those affected by the natural disaster in the New South Wales Hunter and Mid North Coast regions. He made special mention of the families and friends mourning the loss of five individuals who tragically died.
The King noted that both he and Queen Camilla were holding the victims "in our thoughts," recognising the ongoing emotional and physical toll the crisis has inflicted on so many.
"As the immediate emergency passes, I am only too aware that communities are confronting dreadful, soul-destroying damage to homes, properties and infrastructure, and the loss of precious livelihoods and livestock," Charles wrote.
Acknowledging the long road to recovery, he added, "As many hundreds of families have been displaced from their homes, I am deeply conscious that the impact of the crisis will endure for many months."
King Charles also paid tribute to the emergency services, volunteers, and disaster relief teams who have worked tirelessly to help communities in need.
"Above all, I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to all those who, with the indomitable and generous spirit that is so much a part of the Australian character, will bring consolation and practical support to the thousands of people who are in desperate need," the statement concluded.
