Lip reader claims monarch expressed frustration amid ongoing Royal Lodge dispute
King Charles appeared to make a series of tense remarks during Saturday’s Trooping the Colour, fuelling speculation of internal friction within the Royal Family—particularly surrounding the future of Prince Andrew’s residence.
The monarch and Queen Camilla were filmed riding together in an open carriage as part of the grand procession marking the King’s official birthday on June 14. But according to professional lip reader Jeremy Freeman, the King was seen uttering phrases such as: “Absolutely crazy, disgrace, absolutely extraordinary,” and “on my way out,” followed by “not like me. That’s the difference between me and him.”
While the full context of the remarks remains unclear, Freeman’s interpretation has reignited rumours of a deepening rift between King Charles and his younger brother, Prince Andrew—especially amid ongoing tensions over the Duke’s refusal to vacate Royal Lodge.
The King, reportedly determined to streamline the monarchy, has ceased covering Andrew’s £3 million-a-year security costs and encouraged him to move into the more modest Frogmore Cottage. Despite these efforts, Prince Andrew has remained at Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park, after allegedly convincing Palace officials he has sufficient funds to maintain the property independently.
The Royal Family otherwise maintained a united public front during the parade. Princess Catherine and Princess Charlotte charmed fans in matching aqua blue outfits, while Prince George and Prince Louis drew attention in matching red ties—mirroring the scarlet of Prince William’s Welsh Guards uniform. Prince George also debuted a sleek new haircut, sparking praise for his increasingly polished appearance.
