Insider claims Queen expected the Sussexes’ proposal to end badly
Meghan Markle and Harry’s bid to serve as part-time working royals reportedly left a Palace insider furious, according to new revelations.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex drew global attention when they stepped back from royal duties five years ago to establish a new life in California. At the time, they surprised royal watchers by expressing a wish to combine a part-time royal role with financial independence.
In their initial statement, the Sussexes said: “We will continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties.”
The couple sought to clarify that they did not intend to sever ties with the Royal Family entirely, but rather hoped to “create a progressive new role within this institution.”
However, the use of the word “collaborate” reportedly alarmed royal circles. One Palace insider told the Daily Mail: “No one collaborates with the Queen. This is not one of those ‘Kate Moss Top Shop tie-ups.’”
Another source added: “Her Late Majesty was nobody’s fool and knew that the chances were, it would all end in disaster.”
Today, Harry and Meghan remain engaged in high-profile ventures in the United States to sustain their lifestyle, which includes significant private security costs and the upkeep of their luxurious Montecito estate.
