Monarchy on alert as warning issued over potential ‘destructive’ turn
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could face a pivotal moment in their public journey, with their future tied closely to the fate of their Netflix deal, according to a royal expert.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has warned that without continued support from the streaming platform, Meghan Markle and Harry may resort to producing more content critical of the monarchy—raising concerns within royal circles.
“A lot depends on Netflix and how that contract goes,” Fitzwilliams told GB News. “If they don’t succeed in getting at least some sort of link with Netflix, I think they might do some more destructive pieces and I hope that does not happen.”
He also weighed in on the worsening relationship between the Sussexes and the Prince and Princess of Wales, claiming there is little hope for reconciliation.
“The rift does not seem to have any chance at all of being solved,” he said. “The Royal Family, particularly William and Catherine, do not trust them. That’s with good reason, too.”
Fitzwilliams suggested that trust has been irreparably damaged, forming what he described as an “insurmountable barrier” between the once-close royal couples.
