Harry recounts tense exchange between Meghan and Princess Kate at Trooping the Colour
Harry has offered fresh insight into Meghan Markle’s early royal experiences, recalling an awkward moment during her debut at Trooping the Colour in 2018.
In Spare, the Duke of Sussex described the mood that day as “good” and “upbeat,” coming soon after the couple’s honeymoon. It was Meghan’s first official public engagement as a member of the royal family.
When Catherine asked Meghan for her thoughts on the event, Meghan responded with a simple quip: “Colourful.”
The comment, however, did not land well.
"A yawning silence threatened to swallow us all whole," Harry wrote, noting that the Princess of Wales appeared less than amused.
Despite the uncomfortable moment, Meghan maintained her composure throughout the event.
A lipreader observed that Meghan confided to Harry that she was feeling “nervous” on the balcony. Harry responded with a reassuring “Okay?” to which Meghan replied, “Yeah, are you?”
Though she appeared serene while waving to the crowds, the exchange revealed her hidden nerves. Fortunately, Harry remained by her side, calmly supporting her through her first major royal outing.
