Duke of York under fire as Royal Lodge costs fuel royal family tensions
Prince Andrew is once again attracting negative headlines after his costly lifestyle was compared to that of William and Catherine.
According to GB News, property expert Robin Edwards revealed that the Duke of York’s residence, Royal Lodge, is “significantly more expensive” to maintain than Adelaide Cottage, home to the future King and Queen.
King Charles has reportedly asked Andrew to leave the estate, citing spiralling expenses — but the Duke is refusing to move.
“Unlike Frogmore Cottage and Adelaide Cottage, Royal Lodge does not fall within the security cordon of Windsor Castle, and the security bill is therefore significantly higher,” Edwards explained.
He also highlighted the estate’s scale: “As well as the 30-room main house, the property includes a gardener’s cottage, the chapel lodge, six lodge cottages, police security accommodation, and 21 acres of gardens.”
Andrew’s relationship with the royal family remains strained. His involvement in past controversies has left him firmly out of favour with the Prince of Wales.
Royal expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital: “Andrew’s future within the royal family is beyond bleak, since Prince William is firmly opposed to any public rehabilitation with no foreseeable path back.”
She added: “Once king, no doubt, Prince William will ensure Andrew is completely excluded from royal life, as well as all public appearances.”
