Duke of Sussex prepares for Birmingham appearance while royal tensions linger
Harry will return to the UK for the 2027 Invictus Games, but prospects for a royal reunion remain distant, with no plans for Prince William or Meghan Markle to attend.
The Games, founded by the Duke in 2014, will be held in Birmingham from 10 to 17 July 2027 — marking the event’s first appearance in the Midlands. The announcement, shared via Invictus Games’ social channels, signals another milestone for the international sporting competition.
Royal support was once central to the Invictus Games, with King Charles, Queen Camilla, and Prince William attending the inaugural event. However, following Harry and Meghan’s 2020 departure from royal duties, the Games now operate independently through the Invictus Games Foundation.
In a BBC interview, Harry expressed hope for reconciliation: "I would love a reconciliation," he said, though acknowledged ongoing family tensions. "Some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book," he added.
The Duke also ruled out relocating his family to Britain. "I can't see a world where I would be bringing my wife and kids back to the UK at this point," he stated, citing unresolved security concerns. A recent legal challenge over police protection was unsuccessful, and Harry noted that while King Charles could help resolve the matter, he had not sought his father’s intervention.
Meanwhile, Meghan appeared alongside Harry during recent engagements in Canada, underlining the couple’s focus on their shared initiatives outside the UK.
