Tensions rise as Duke’s bold move deepens Royal feud
King Charles’s legacy faces fresh challenges as his fractured relationship with the Duke of Sussex continues to cloud the Royal Family.
Since stepping back from Royal duties in 2020 and relocating to the United States with Meghan Markle, Harry has remained estranged from his father. Five years later, the rift shows little sign of healing.
The distance was clear during Charles’s recent visit to Canada to open Parliament, while Harry attended a sustainable travel summit in China.
Royal author Valentine Low has warned that the ongoing feud could “potentially damage Charles’s legacy” if left unresolved. The situation has worsened following Harry’s BBC interview, where he claimed, “Charles won’t speak to me” and voiced concerns about “how much longer my father has” amid the King’s cancer treatment.
“It wasn’t meant to be an attack, but it would be seen as one,” Low commented.
Compounding the tension, reports suggest Harry is considering taking his mother’s family name, Spencer, in place of Mountbatten-Windsor.
Low added that there appears to be no close adviser urging the King to “be a good dad and make the first move.” Nevertheless, he believes the public can “separate the private drama from Charles’s public role.”
