Princess Kate’s ongoing recovery raises questions over potential appearance in Rio
Prince William has officially announced that he will attend the 2025 Earthshot Prize ceremony in Rio de Janeiro—marking the environmental initiative’s first-ever event in South America. The Prince of Wales revealed the news during a ‘Leading with Impact’ gathering in London as part of Climate Action Week, where he met with Earthshot finalists and champions.
The Earthshot Prize, launched by William in 2020, awards five winners £1 million each to advance innovative solutions to global environmental challenges. Previous ceremonies have been hosted in London, Boston, and Singapore, but this year’s grand event will take place at the Museu do Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow) in Brazil.
Though Prince William’s commitment is confirmed, Princess Catherine’s participation remains uncertain. Having missed last year’s stops in Singapore and a recent Earthshot event in Cape Town amid her ongoing recovery, her potential appearance in Rio has yet to be addressed by Kensington Palace.
A powerful announcement video unveiled a dynamic mix of global Earthshot supporters—including Cate Blanchett, Jacinda Ardern, Robert Irwin, David Beckham, and Brazilian football legend Cafu—adding excitement to the build-up toward the November ceremony.
With a strong international lineup and 15 groundbreaking finalists receiving year-long accelerator support, the Rio edition of Earthshot is poised to be its most globally impactful yet—even as royal watchers continue to monitor Catherine’s health and future public engagements.
