Prince William Delivers Powerful Speech on Global Ocean Crisis

Prince follows King Charles’ lead as he takes bold stance on world stage

Prince William delivered a landmark speech at Monaco’s Blue Economy and Finance Forum on Sunday, calling for urgent action to protect the world’s oceans.

The Prince of Wales, founder and president of The Earthshot Prize, praised the efforts of Prize finalists, whose innovations offer hope for reversing the damage as the ocean floor “diminishes before our eyes.”

In his address, William stressed that “healthy oceans are essential to all life on earth,” generating half of the planet’s oxygen, regulating climate, and providing food for more than three billion people.

However, with human activity continuing to degrade marine ecosystems and threaten dependent communities, he urged global leaders to act swiftly.

“We must realise the potential of the blue economy for our ecosystems, our economies and our communities,” William told an audience of investors. “All too often, it can feel distant and disconnected from our everyday lives, allowing us to forget just how vital it is.”

The speech comes as the heir to the throne assumes a more prominent international role, particularly in environmental diplomacy, following the example of King Charles, a lifelong champion of sustainability.

As William steadily prepares for his future role as king, he is becoming an increasingly influential voice on major global issues.

The forum also drew world leaders, including President Chavez of Costa Rica, French President Macron, and Prince Albert of Monaco.

In closing, William urged the audience to embrace the words of Sir David Attenborough: “If we save the sea, we save our world — for the future of the planet and for future generations.”
