King Charles’ Duchy Receives Urgent Orders Ahead of Historic Visit

Buckingham Palace confirms monarch’s Lancashire trip as police issue fresh safety alerts

UK police have issued urgent new safety measures as King Charles prepares to make a historic visit to his private estate, the Duchy of Lancaster.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that the monarch will visit Lancashire on Monday to meet local business leaders and attend a regional celebration.

This marks Charles’ first official visit to the Duchy since inheriting it from his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, following his accession to the throne in 2022.

On Sunday, enhanced security protocols were introduced to protect the King and ensure minimal disruption to local residents.

“We want everyone who would like to turn out and support his visit to have a safe and enjoyable day, and we’d like to make the public aware of some airspace restrictions as a result,” Lancashire Police said in a statement.

A temporary airspace restriction will be in effect from 8:00am to 5:00pm on Monday, 9 June 2025, covering a large portion of the county.

Lancashire Constabulary warned that “unmanned aircraft flying below 1,400ft above sea level” without authorisation will face “robust action,” including possible prosecution and the seizure of drones and related equipment.

During the visit, King Charles is expected to take part in the ancient tradition of receiving the Keys to the Castle outside the John O’Gaunt gateway.

Following the ceremony, the King — also the Duke of Lancaster — will attend a reception with local business leaders and community members, including Lancaster University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andy Schofield.
