Prince William Joins Sir David Attenborough to Champion Greener Future

Future King’s Earthshot Prize backs marine conservation as new documentary launches

Prince William has teamed up with Sir David Attenborough for a powerful conversation ahead of the global premiere of Sir David’s latest ocean documentary.

Filmed at London’s Royal Festival Hall in May, the discussion was shared by Kensington Palace this week to mark World Oceans Day.

In their exchange, the Prince of Wales and the 99-year-old naturalist reflected on Sir David’s decades-long exploration of Earth’s marine life, highlighting its beauty, the threats it faces, and the urgent need to safeguard it for future generations.

Their conversation supports the mission of Prince William’s Earthshot Prize, particularly the ‘Revive Our Oceans’ category, which promotes marine conservation.

Since its launch in 2021, Earthshot finalists have helped protect and restore over 20,000 square kilometres of vital marine habitat and contributed to saving, reducing, or recycling 2.5 million tonnes of water — proof that innovation can drive real change.

To celebrate Sir David’s 99th birthday, the Prince of Wales also shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, posting photos from their recent meeting along with a family snapshot from 2020.
