The Prince of Wales carries out eco-focused engagement as his wife steps back from public appearance
Prince William pressed ahead with royal duties on Thursday by joining Hollywood star Cate Blanchett for an environmental visit, just a day after Catherine withdrew from a major royal event.
On Wednesday, the Prince of Wales attended the second day of Royal Ascot, where he presented the trophy for the Prince of Wales’ Stakes to Ombudsman, ridden by William Buick. Catherine had been expected to accompany him but pulled out at the last moment without a formal explanation.
Continuing his schedule, William visited Colorifix on Thursday, a finalist in the 2023 Earthshot Prize under the ‘Build a Waste Free World’ category. The company has developed a sustainable dyeing method using naturally derived organisms to reduce harmful waste and protect natural ecosystems.
The Prince, who founded the Earthshot Prize to support environmental innovation, was joined by Blanchett, a member of the Prize Council, during the visit to learn more about the company's eco-friendly breakthroughs.
During his Royal Ascot appearance, William was initially seen looking subdued but later shared a warm embrace with his mother-in-law, Carole Middleton, in a moment that lifted his spirits.
Sources suggest Catherine was disappointed to miss the event but remains focused on her ongoing recovery. Those close to her say she is continuing to adjust and find the right pace as she gradually returns to public life following her cancer treatment.
