Royal and actress to spotlight sustainable dyeing technology at award-winning company
Prince William will soon return to royal duties with a focus on sustainability, as Kensington Palace confirms he will visit the eco-friendly dyeing firm Colorifix on 19 June—accompanied by Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett.
Blanchett, who serves on the Earthshot Prize Council, will join the Prince of Wales to explore the company’s pioneering approach to fabric dyeing. A 2023 Earthshot Prize finalist, Colorifix employs DNA sequencing to replicate colours from nature, eliminating the need for toxic chemicals and dramatically reducing water consumption.
Traditional methods waste up to five trillion litres of water annually, whereas Colorifix uses microbes to create pigments through fermentation, significantly lowering environmental impact.
During their tour, William and Blanchett will view the full production process and learn about the technology’s broader benefits, including reduced energy use and carbon emissions.
Colorifix now collaborates with major brands such as H&M and Pangaia, with operations spanning Europe and India.
