Minor mishap interrupts royal procession as Anne rides with son and his partner
Princess Anne experienced an unexpected hiccup at Royal Ascot when her carriage broke down during the traditional royal procession, briefly delaying the King’s entrance.
Riding with her son Peter Phillips and his partner Harriet Sperling—who was making her royal carriage debut—the Princess Royal’s carriage reportedly developed a technical fault, halting the procession momentarily.
Royal grooms quickly intervened to fix the harness, allowing the carriage to continue after a short delay. King Charles, positioned further ahead, paused his own carriage to ensure his sister could rejoin the procession and the family could arrive together.
Despite the interruption, the atmosphere remained festive. Rows of schoolchildren lined the trackside, patiently awaiting the royals’ arrival. Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling later proceeded in the third carriage, undeterred by the earlier mishap.
King Charles and Queen Camilla led the elegant parade in the first carriage, accompanied by Prince Faisal bin Salman Al Saud and Lady Sarah Keswick.
