Trusted nanny quietly supports Wales children during Trooping the Colour

But while Prince William fulfilled his role on horseback and Catherine joined the children on the balcony, a key question arose: who keeps a watchful eye on the young royals behind the scenes?
The answer lies in the steady presence of Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, the family’s long-serving and trusted nanny. A graduate of the elite Norland College in Bath, Maria has cared for the Wales children since 2014 and is known for her discretion and professionalism.
Maria, originally from Spain, is part of an elite class of nannies trained in everything from childhood development and nutrition to self-defence and crisis response. Easily recognised by the signature brown Norland uniform, she is considered an integral part of the family’s private life.
Her role extends far beyond childcare—managing meals, school routines, wardrobe logistics, and supporting the children’s education in creative, engaging ways. As fellow Norland nanny Louenna Hood explained, “A nanny will also be expected to support each child with their homework and make it as fun and interesting as possible.”
