Actor reflects on career fallout amid Amber Heard trial and vows comeback
Johnny Depp has finally opened up about the abrupt end to his roles in major film franchises during his high-profile legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard.
The 62-year-old actor, best known for his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, lost multiple high-profile roles, including his part in Alice in Wonderland and Fantastic Beasts, during the defamation case that shook Hollywood.
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Depp revealed how suddenly things unraveled. “It literally stopped in a millisecond, like, while I was doing the movie. They said we’d like you to resign,” he recalled. The actor added, “But what was really in my head was they wanted me to retire. F--- you. There’s far too many of me to kill.”
He continued, “If you think you can hurt me more than I’ve already been hurt, you’re gravely mistaken,” indicating the emotional toll the ordeal had taken on him.
Depp was notably removed from Fantastic Beasts 3, despite having starred in the first two installments. The loss of these roles marked a major turning point in his career.
Since the 2022 trial, the Tourist star has been gradually rebuilding his public image. He’s now preparing for a return to the big screen with Day Drinker, a new film co-starring Penélope Cruz — signaling a new chapter for the veteran actor.
