King Charles Honors Prince Edward’s Service Ahead of Sophie’s Overseas Trip

Royal Family praises Duke of Edinburgh’s successful Canada visit before Duchess’s solo Bosnia tour

King Charles has publicly recognised Prince Edward’s dedication following his recent royal tour of Canada, just days before Duchess Sophie begins her own solo visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On July 6, Buckingham Palace shared a series of photos and an official statement highlighting Edward’s activities across Canada. The Duke of Edinburgh’s visit began in Prince Edward Island, where he marked the 150th anniversary of the PEI Regiment, in which he serves as Colonel-in-Chief, and joined a Freedom of the City parade in Charlottetown.

The Palace confirmed that Edward also met with the Abegweit First Nation, participated in an education forum for The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, and engaged with youth organisations.

During his stop in Toronto, the Duke visited the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, HMCS York, CFB Trenton, and the Toronto Police Marine Unit and Emergency Task Force to recognise the work of Canada’s military and police services.

He concluded his trip in Ottawa, where he joined Canada Day celebrations and visited the Musical Ride stables as Honorary Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

This royal update comes just before the Duchess of Edinburgh begins her significant solo journey to Bosnia and Herzegovina from July 10 to 12, where she will attend the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide on behalf of the King.
