King Charles Open to Reconciliation with Prince Harry Despite William’s Hesitations

Monarch seeks peace with son to avoid ‘misery’ in final years, says royal expert

King Charles is reportedly eager to mend ties with Prince Harry, as he prioritises peace within his family over ongoing royal tensions—despite apparent resistance from Prince William.

Royal commentator Valentine Low shared insight into the monarch’s state of mind, revealing that Charles, 76, is feeling the emotional toll of the rift with his youngest son. Speaking to The Sun, Low said, “Charles is primarily a father before a monarch. He has said he doesn't want them to make his last years a misery.”

The latest signs of thawing relations emerged after aides from both sides were spotted meeting privately in London, a move widely interpreted as a quiet step toward reconciliation. While the King is said to be open to discussions, it's also clear that he is deeply affected by the ongoing family division.

“Prince Harry doesn’t want to betray his father,” Low added. “Yes, he revealed private matters in his documentary and memoir Spare, but that doesn’t mean he wants to destroy his relationship with Charles.”

However, while the King appears willing to explore a path forward, Prince William reportedly remains wary. According to royal insiders, the Prince of Wales has not yet moved past the emotional wounds caused by Harry’s public criticisms—especially those aimed at Catherine, the Princess of Wales.

The divide between the brothers has remained a sticking point, even as the King quietly seeks ways to bring his youngest son back into the royal fold. With Harry expected in the UK this autumn, attention now turns to whether Charles’s desire for peace will outweigh William’s reluctance—and whether the family can find common ground before time runs out.
