Duke of Edinburgh honours monarch's heartfelt wishes amid royal family milestones
Prince Edward carried out an important royal duty on behalf of his brother, King Charles, as he attended Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa on July 1.
The Duke of Edinburgh delivered a heartfelt message directly from the King, expressing the monarch’s deep affection and gratitude for Canadians. "I also bring you Their Majesties’ greetings on this day," Edward read aloud. "They send you their very best wishes, and they do want to say thank you for the wonderful welcome that they received just a few weeks ago when they were here."
Edward added that the King and Queen look forward to returning, with hopes to "visit more provinces in due course." He also acknowledged the warm sentiments Canadians have sent regarding King Charles’ ongoing cancer treatment, noting how much the support means to the entire royal family.
"We take immense pride in Canada and Canadians," the Duke shared.
The meaningful engagement came shortly after Duchess Sophie made headlines for wearing her wedding ring during a public appearance at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival — a detail that drew subtle attention amid swirling discussions about royal unity and visibility.
Together, Edward and Sophie continue to represent the monarchy in key public roles as King Charles and Queen Camilla carry out Royal Week duties in Scotland.
