Prince Harry slammed for ‘unforgivable’ silence as Meghan Markle launches wine on Diana’s birthday

Critics accuse Duke of Sussex of failing to protect Princess Diana’s legacy

Prince Harry is facing intense backlash after remaining silent while his wife, Meghan Markle, launched a rosé wine on what would have been Princess Diana’s 64th birthday.

The Duchess of Sussex introduced the first product from her new lifestyle brand’s wine range, As Ever, on July 1 — the same date Diana was born. The timing of the announcement sparked outrage from some royal watchers and fans, who deemed it both “insensitive” and “tone-deaf,” particularly considering the Princess of Wales died in a car crash involving a drunk driver.

While Meghan faced criticism for the timing of her product launch, many turned their frustration toward Harry, accusing him of failing to honour his mother’s memory and legacy.

Social media commentator @CandidCoverage wrote, “She didn’t choose to honour her memory. She didn’t reflect on her life or legacy. She used the day to sell a product.” The post went on to accuse the couple of turning Diana into a marketing tool.

Critics also highlighted Harry’s past promises to protect and uphold his mother’s legacy, calling his silence “indefensible” and “unforgivable.” One user wrote, “This was not a mistake. It was a deliberate decision made with full awareness. I am physically nauseated.”

The rosé launch also coincided with the start of King Charles and Queen Camilla’s Royal Week engagements in Scotland, adding to the intensity of public discussion.

While neither Harry nor Meghan have responded to the backlash, the controversy has reignited debate over how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex choose to honour — or commercialise — Diana’s legacy.
