The timing of the announcement sparked outrage from some royal watchers and fans, who deemed it both “insensitive” and “tone-deaf,” particularly considering the Princess of Wales died in a car crash involving a drunk driver.

Social media commentator @CandidCoverage wrote, “She didn’t choose to honour her memory. She didn’t reflect on her life or legacy. She used the day to sell a product.” The post went on to accuse the couple of turning Diana into a marketing tool.
Critics also highlighted Harry’s past promises to protect and uphold his mother’s legacy, calling his silence “indefensible” and “unforgivable.” One user wrote, “This was not a mistake. It was a deliberate decision made with full awareness. I am physically nauseated.”
