Expert claims Duchess of Sussex struggled with royal life and cultural expectations
The British royal family may appear steeped in formality and tradition, but they are far from immune to the complexities of modern relationships. In particular, the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle continues to be a subject of public scrutiny and internal tension, with new insights surfacing about King Charles III’s personal views.
Royal commentator Esther Krakue has claimed that King Charles once made a pointed remark about Harry being “whipped,” reflecting concerns within palace circles about the Duke’s dynamic with Meghan. Speaking to The Sun, Krakue revealed that many close to the monarchy have voiced similar sentiments, suggesting long-standing unease behind closed doors.
According to Krakue, part of the tension stems from a fundamental cultural clash between Meghan and the royal institution. “I think in some ways Meghan thought she was marrying a billionaire but was marrying a millionaire with a reduced status,” she said, suggesting the Duchess may have misunderstood the constraints of royal life.
Krakue further noted that Meghan “hadn’t earned enough brownie points” to fully shape her role or image on her own terms. “She didn’t fully understand or was even interested in what it meant to be a working royal,” the expert added.
The couple, who married in May 2018, also reportedly faced friction leading up to their wedding. Krakue claimed that Harry’s decisions during the planning stages left Queen Elizabeth II “dismayed,” nearly jeopardising his close relationship with his grandmother.
While the Sussexes have since stepped away from royal duties and built a life in the U.S., the revelations suggest their departure may have been fueled by deeper, unresolved conflicts—making it clear that even royalty isn’t immune to the strains of modern relationships.
