Armed Forces Day Message Sparks Backlash for Ignoring Two Veteran Royals
A social media tribute by the Royal Family for Armed Forces Day has stirred controversy among royal watchers after failing to mention two of its most recognisable veterans—Harry and Prince Andrew.
The official message, shared across royal platforms, praised the sacrifices of British military personnel and their families, expressing deep gratitude for their service. But noticeably absent from the tribute were any references to Harry, who served two tours in Afghanistan, and Andrew, a Royal Navy veteran of the Falklands War.
While many received the post positively, others voiced frustration online, accusing the Palace of allowing personal rifts and past controversies to eclipse military service. One commenter wrote, “No mention of Prince Harry? That says it all,” while another added, “You don’t have to like them, but you can’t erase their service.”
The omission comes as tensions within the royal family persist—particularly following Harry’s departure from official duties in 2020 and Andrew’s retreat from public life after a string of scandals.
For some royal fans, the post was a reminder of how unresolved divisions continue to ripple through even the most ceremonial moments.
